From Newcastle to Paris – Rebecca (Miss Becky) is off to the Moulin Rouge!
22nd March 2019
You may have seen our excited announcement on Facebook regarding some amazing news we received from Rebecca Higgins? Rebecca is making the move from Newcastle to Paris after being offered a position at the Moulin Rouge. At Newcastle Dance Academy, we celebrate with all our students as they succeed in achieving their dreams, and we are so very happy for our beautiful Miss Becky.
Rebecca has been an NDA student since 2007, which means she’s been part of our family for 12 years now! Last year, she completed her RAD ballet examinations, her final Advance 2 with distinction, and all whilst tackling the HSC. In fact, Becky’s was selected for Callback 2018. For those who don’t know, Callback is a celebration held annually, showcasing the exceptional talent of students who presented their work as part of the Higher School Certificate that year. Callback involves dance performances, compositions and film entries from all across the state, from both public and private school systems. To be selected is a massive honour and achievement, with the selection panel reviewing each candidate’s technical skill and performance quality.
Over the years, she’s trained with the Australian Ballet Interstate Program, competed in countless eisteddfods and now she is helping out as a student assistant teacher. The kids here love her, and she’s a natural with them. We love that our young dancers have had the opportunity to spend time with her, as she is certainly a worthy role model for each of them. We have watched her grow from the time she was a little ballerina herself, and seeing this transition has been a rewarding experience for the staff at NDA. Rebecca’s loyalty is second to none, and her work ethic is outstanding. She has mastered all genres and is a joy to watch on the dance floor. This achievement is every dancer’s dream, and we are excited to be celebrating this success in the industry with her.
Worldwide, hundreds of talented dancers chase their dream of dancing at the Moulin Rouge by auditioning. All candidates like Rebecca, who make the final five in their auditions, are kept on file at the Moulin Rouge and notified if/when an appropriate placement becomes available. We were all over the moon to learn that Rebecca was successful in gaining this place. It’s a real-life fairy-tale… a young dancer from Newcastle, NSW, Australia will take on one of the world’s most prestigious stages! Whilst it’s a little sad she will be leaving us in April, we know this is a once in a lifetime opportunity, and Becky has certainly earned this.
From all the staff, students and families at Newcastle Dance Academy, we would like to wish Rebecca all the best for the amazing journey that awaits. We know you will shine as beautifully on the Moulin Rouge stage in Paris, as you have right here at home in Newcastle. It’s been an absolute privilege to watch you grow as a young woman and a dancer, and we know you’ll make the most of this amazing opportunity. Moving forward, we will definitely be watching your career with love and pride.
